Avoid Surprises at the Border

Don't Let an Outdated Vehicle Slow Your Trusted Traveler Crossing

For land travelers, your vehicle details must be up-to-date in your Trusted Traveler account. Updating this is fast, but skipping it can mean secondary inspections, delays, or even denied access to SENTRI/NEXUS/Global Entry lanes. Here's exactly how to stay current—so you're never sidelined before your next border run.

How to Add Your Vehicle in the TTP Portal

Follow these step-by-step instructions to add or update a vehicle to your Trusted Traveler profile:

01

Log in to Your TTP Account

Go to the Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) site and sign in.

Use your login.gov credentials. If you have issues, reset your password or check your email for verification if two-factor is set up.

02

Navigate to Your Program Membership

Select the appropriate program (e.g., SENTRI, NEXUS, or Global Entry).

Only SENTRI and NEXUS require vehicle registration, but Global Entry users crossing by land should update vehicles as well. Click on 'Manage Membership.'

03

Choose 'Add Vehicle'

Find the 'Vehicles' section and select 'Add Vehicle.'

You'll enter details such as VIN, license plate number, state/province, make, model, and color. Double-check for typos.

04

Upload Documentation

Attach required vehicle documents.

Upload a scan or photo of your current registration, leasing agreement, or rental contract. Make sure documents are clear and valid.

05

Submit for Review

Finalize your submission and review confirmation.

Most additions are approved within minutes, but allow extra time before travel for manual reviews—especially with rentals or company cars.
