Family Border Crossing

Children Can—and Should—Get NEXUS or SENTRI

Bringing the whole family through special lanes only works if every member, including infants and toddlers, has their own Trusted Traveler card. Each child needs a separate profile, application, fee (if applicable), and must attend an in-person interview—even babies in strollers.

How to Add a Child to NEXUS or SENTRI

Getting your kids approved is similar to the adult process, but there are a few extra details for minors.

01

Create a TTP Account for Each Child

Begin by making an account for every minor, even infants.

Each child must have their own TTP (Trusted Traveler Programs) account, though a parent/guardian manages it. Use a separate email or allow the system to link to your own.

02

Complete the Application and Pay Fees

Fill out a full application for every child.

NEXUS is free for applicants under 18; SENTRI charges the standard fee. Enter accurate details—errors can cause delays.

03

Schedule Interviews (Together, if Possible)

Each child (regardless of age) must go in person.

Try booking family slots back-to-back. At least one parent or guardian must attend—plan for extra time if you have several kids.

04

Prepare Documents and Attend Interview

Bring proof of relationship and required IDs for everyone.

Birth certificates, passports, and custody documents (if needed) are required for minors. Children must be physically present—even infants.
